It is the first international conference to explore in a single forum all the
ethical aspects related to cancer, from the implications of the latest basic
research to the emerging issues in clinical trails, technology transfer and
treatment distribution. Through an innovative interdisciplinary approach, it
brings together leading scholars from basic and clinical oncology, bioethics and
health care law to reflect on the new ethical challenges of cancer care. From
large-scale genomic screens to molecular targeted therapies, from
population-wide environmental studies to globalized clinical trials, the race to
cure cancer is undergoing rapid changes, both in our understanding of the
disease and in the implementation of global health care strategies. Scientific
and social changes both contribute to these new developments that span the whole
spectrum of prevention, diagnosis, therapy and rehabilitation. With its unique
combination of topics, disciplines and leading experts, this conference is a
timely contribution to provide fresh bioethical insight into this central aspect
of human health.
