MEMBERSHIP DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE
2007-2009 The Membership Development Committee is charged with promoting membership in ISHPSSB and attendance at ISHPSSB meetings. Of special concern are the promotion of disciplinary and regional diversity. In the past, the Membership Development Committee has designed a membership flyer for distribution at meetings and for downloading from the Society's website. This flyer included information about the Society, the benefits of membership, and the next meeting. Relevant Bylaws ARTICLE II — MEMBERS

Membership Development Committee Report 2001-2003
Membership Development Committee The Membership Development Committee was formed in the Spring of 2002. Our primary charge is to make the society better known to possible members. To achieve this end, we developed a flyer to advertise the society and specifically to advertise this meeting in Vienna. We displayed this flyer at a table at the joint meetings of 4S, HSS, and PSA (in Milwaukee, WI). This allowed us to reach philosophers, historians, and sociologists of science with a single effort. An ad for the HSS/PSA program in Milwaukee was prepared and sent to the printer. However, the printer mistakenly omitted it from the program. The printer offered to make a donation to the Society. [Note: check with Keith Benson to see if money was actually received.] Jay Malone, the Executive Secretary of the History of Science Society, was helpful with the plans for the Milwaukee meeting. The flyer was posted to the Society's web page so that members could print copies of the flyer to post and/or bring copies to other meetings, thereby reaching many potential members. It's availability was announced in the Society's Fall 2002 Newsletter. Suggestions for future activities of the Membership Development Committee include the following: --Consider placing ads in journals (which will cost some money, but might be worthwhile) --Find mailing lists of graduate schools to which we could mail updated copies of the flyer. Additional suggestions are welcome. |
