IGERT Postdoctoral Fellow in Biological Invasions
University of California, Davis

The University of California, Davis, seeks a postdoctoral fellow with
broad, interdisciplinary interests in biological invasions for a one-year
postdoctoral fellowship (renewable for a second year) supported by a
training grant from the National Science Foundation Integrative Graduate
Education and Research Traineeship (IGERT) program (see
http://www.cpb.ucdavis.edu/bioinv). The primary goal of the Biological
Invasions IGERT is to train students from the life sciences, social
sciences, humanities and other disciplines to address the
complex environmental challenges presented by biological species
invasions. The program stresses interdisciplinary collaboration and
mentorship among students, postdoctoral fellows, faculty, and the
non-academic community.

IGERT Postdoctoral Fellows will conduct interdisciplinary research on some
aspect of biological invasions and assist in other aspects of the IGERT,
as described below. Although applicants may submit proposals in any area,
we strongly prefer proposals that integrate the natural sciences with
economics, social science and/or humanities.

Additional responsibilities of postdocs include enhancing research
collaborations among faculty and students, contributing to the 1st year
core graduate curriculum and 2nd year collaborative research projects,
participating in the Biological Invasions symposia, and assisting with
administration of the IGERT. Faculty will mentor postdoctoral fellows in
research and professional development; fellows will mentor graduate and
undergraduate students through teaching, formal research collaborations,
and informal interactions.

All postdoctoral fellows receive competitive salaries in accordance with
University of California regulations for postdoctoral salaries (see
http://gradstudies.ucdavis.edu/apm390/), $5000 in research
funds, and benefits.

Applications from prospective fellows will consist of the following.

     1. a short proposal (no more than 5 single-spaced pages) describing a
collaborative project that links the research programs of trainers in two
or more disciplines;
     2. curriculum vitae;
     3. two-page statement of current research interests;
     4. one-page description of teaching and mentoring experience and
philosophy;
     5. three letters of recommendation.

Review of applications will begin on 31 January; the position will
remain open until filled.

Please send application materials to:
