Positions available at the KLI (Austria)
The Konrad Lorenz Institute for Evolution and Cognition Research (KLI) is a private, non-profit institution that primarily fosters theoretical research in evolutionary developmental biology and evolutionary studies in cognition.
The KLI invites applications for the following positions:
• The Hans Przibram Fellowship in the history and philosophy of EvoDevo: a three-year post-doctoral fellowship to investigate anticipations of current evolutionary developmental thinking in pre-Synthesis biology, or to contribute to the articulation of a philosophy of EvoDevo. Candidates will hold a PhD in history of biology or philosophy of biology and should send a short description of their research proposal along with their curriculum vitae (in English) to the Scientific Manager of the KLI: Prof. Dr. Werner Callebaut (callebaut@kli.ac.at) by June 15, 2004. They may then be asked to submit a formal application and a more detailed project description. All formal project proposals will be externally reviewed. Fellowship recipients will be announced not later than September 2004.
• Two-year Fellowship for research into the history of Evolutionary Epistemology, comprising bioepistemology (the study of the evolution of cognitive mechanisms), genetic epistemology in the Piagetian tradition, and evolutionary theories of science. Candidates will hold a MA or PhD in philosophy or history and will be fluent in German and English, and preferably also read French.
• Two-year KLI Theory Lab Manager: The KLI Theory Lab (http://kli.ac.at/theorylab) is a database highlighting interconnections between research topics in evolution and cognition. The successful candidate will provide further intellectual content, technically maintain and develop the database, and interact with contributors and users. Applicants will hold minimally a MA, MSc, or equivalent diploma in a discipline relevant to the areas covered by the KLI Theory Lab, will have experience in trans- and interdisciplinary research, and will prove expertise in database programming, including MySQL and php.
Candidates for these two positions should send their curriculum vitae (in English) to the Scientific Manager of the KLI: Prof. Dr. Werner Callebaut (callebaut@kli.ac.at) by May 20, 2004. Fellowship recipients will be announced not later than July 2004.
All Fellows are expected to work at the KLI and to participate in the talks and workshops organized by the Institute. Further information about the KLI is available at http://kli.ac.at.
