IGERT Postdoctoral Fellow in Biological Invasions
University of California, Davis

     The University of California, Davis, seeks a postdoctoral fellow with
broad, collaborative, interdisciplinary interests in biological invasions
for a one-year postdoctoral fellowship (renewable for a second year)
supported by a training grant from the National Science Foundation
Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traineeship (IGERT) program
(see http://www.cpb.ucdavis.edu/bioinv ). The primary goal of the
Biological Invasions IGERT is to train students from the life sciences,
social sciences, humanities and other disciplines to address the complex
environmental challenges presented by biological species invasions. The
program stresses interdisciplinary collaboration and mentorship among
students, postdoctoral fellows, faculty, and the non-academic community.

     IGERT Postdoctoral Fellows will conduct research on some aspect of
biological invasions and provide interdisciplinary perspectives to
graduate trainees through teaching and collaborative projects. Successful
proposals will integrate the natural sciences with economics, social
science and/or humanities, and will link the research programs of two or
more trainers. The ideal candidate will help our students understand how
other fields impinge upon their disciplines in the study of biological
invasions.

     Additional responsibilities of postdocs include enhancing research
collaborations among faculty and students, contributing to the 1st year
core graduate curriculum and 2nd year collaborative research projects,
participating in the Biological Invasions symposia, and assisting with
administration of the IGERT. Faculty will mentor postdoctoral fellows in
research and professional development; fellows will mentor graduate and
undergraduate students through teaching, formal research collaborations,
and informal interactions. Fulfilling these additional responsibilities
will require no more than 50% of the postdoctoral fellow's time.

     All postdoctoral fellows receive competitive salaries in accordance
with University of California regulations for postdoctoral salaries (see
http://gradstudies.ucdavis.edu/apm390/), $5000 in research funds, and
benefits.

We encourage prospective applicants to contact us prior to applying to
discuss their proposed collaborative project. A full application will
consist of the following.

   1. a short proposal (no more than 5 single-spaced pages) describing a
collaborative project that links the research programs of trainers in two
or more disciplines;
   2. curriculum vitae;
   3. two-page statement of current research interests;
   4. one-page description of teaching and mentoring experience and
philosophy;
   5. three letters of recommendation.

     Please address preliminary inquiries and send electronic application
materials to the IGERT Academic Coordinator, Dr. Carole L. Hom, at
clhom@ucdavis.edu

Applications will be reviewed when received; the position will remain
open until filled.
