Lecturers, Barrett Honors College

The Barrett Honors College of Arizona State University invites applications for
two Lecturer positions. The faculty of the honors college, comprised of
non-tenure track Lecturers and Senior Lecturers on one to three-year renewable
appointments, normally teach four seminar classes of fewer than 20 students each
semester. Most of these classes are sections of a first-year, two-semester
interdisciplinary examination of important ideas humans have had from the
earliest writing to the present. They are discussion-based seminars taught by
the faculty from their different perspectives of natural science, social science
or humanities. Special attention is given to critical thinking and
argumentative writing skills. Barrett Honors College students represent the top
7% of undergraduates at ASU, with average entering SATs of 1310 and one quarter
of the class National Merit Finalists.

We seek full-time multi-year Lecturers to teach the first-year seminar from the
point of view of (1) a natural science discipline/history and philosophy of
science, or (2) a social science discipline.  Position begins August, 2005;
nine-month salary based on education and experience.

Qualifications: A PhD in a field appropriate to the openings is required at time
of hire, as is prior teaching experience at the college level. Experience in
leading discussion seminars is desirable.

Application: Please send (1) a letter of application detailing teaching
philosophy, teaching background, and disciplinary training and research, (2) a
c.v., and (3) names and contact information for three references who can address
teaching experience to: Karen Bruhn, Chair, Lecturer Search Committee, DeanŐs
Office, Barrett Honors College, Arizona State University, P.O. Box 871612,
Tempe, AZ 85287-1612. Review will begin on January 31, 2005 and, if not filled,
every two weeks thereafter until the search is closed.

ASU is an Equal Opportunity, Affirmative Action employer in policy and practice.
