Postdoc positions in the project "Integrating Medical Museology and the
Historiography of Recent Biomedicine", Medical Museion, University of Copenhagen

(PRE-ANNOUNCEMENT).

The Medical Museion at the University of Copenhagen invites applications for up
to 4 postdoctoral fellowships in the project "Danish Biomedicine, 1955-2005:
Integrating Medical Museology and the Historiography of Recent Biomedicine",
funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation.

The aim of the project is to develop the tools for integrating research in the
history of recent biomedicine with the establishment of museum collections and
creation of exhibitions of recent biomedical culture. The fellows will join a
team consisting of the head of the project, an assistant professor in medical
museology, one-two ph.d.-candidates, and the technical museum staff. Fellows are
expected to combine research on selected topics in the history of recent
biomedicine (approx. 80% of total work time) with the collection and/or
exhibition of the material and/or iconographic culture of biomedicine (20%), and
to engage in the research seminars and outreach activities of the Medical
Museion.

Applicants should possess a Ph.D.-degree or corresponding qualifications in
areas like history of medicine, history of science and/or technology, art
history, visual culture, ethnology, etc. Additional scientific and medical
qualifications are a plus. Applicants who plan to work with empirical material
from regional sites or archives will benefit from having some Scandinavian
language skills.

The fellowships will be granted for a one-year period, but can be prolonged for
a second year. Appointments shall begin after 1 April and before the end of
2005. A travel allowance for attendance at international meetings associated
with the project will be provided.

Note that this is an unofficial pre-announcement only. For legal-technical
reasons the positions will not be officially announced until after 1 January,
2005. The final announcement (which will contain information about salary levels
and the conditions for postdoc appointments in the Danish university system)
will ask applicants to submit a five page research proposal (including a short
proposal for how the research program will be combined with curatorial work), a
full CV, copies of publications and/or writing samples, and other material that
may help the selection procedure. Application dead-line is 1 March, 2005. For
