Organisers: Staffan Müller-Wille, Hans-Jörg Rheinberger, John Dupré
Deadline for Paper Proposals: March 31, 2006

The ESRC Centre for Genomics in Society, University of Exeter, and the
Max-Planck-Institute for the History of Science, Berlin, are jointly
organizing a workshop "Heredity in the Century of the Gene (A Cultural
History of Heredity IV)". This workshop, scheduled to take place at the
University of Exeter December 11-13 2006, is part of a series of workshops
forming the backbone of a long term research project on the cultural history
of heredity. The project aims to uncover the technical, juridical, medical,
and scientific practices in which the knowledge of inheritance was
historically anchored in different epochs and to understand the genesis of
today's naturalistic concept of heredity. Scholars from a wide variety of
disciplines, including historians of art and literature, medicine, law, or
economics, are invited to submit paper proposals. Conference language is
English. Costs for travel and accommodation will be covered. For further
