History of Science:
Assistant Professor (Tenure Track), Life Sciences/Medicine
The Department of History at the University of California, San Diego, intends to
appoint an assistant professor (tenure-track) in History of the Life Sciences
and/or Medicine, beginning July 1, 2007. We seek an energetic and enthusiastic
colleague who will contribute to all areas of our program--research, teaching,
service--and participate in UCSD's inter-disciplinary graduate program in
Science Studies. Time period and geographic area are open; we particularly
welcome applicants whose work involves non-western contexts, and/or applies a
comparative approach to knowledge traditions and epistemic projects. For
appropriate candidates, potential exists for formal research and teaching
affiliation with the UCSD School of Medicine or Division of Biological Sciences.
The committee will conduct preliminary interviews at the annual meetings of the
History of Science Society/Society for the Social Studies of Science in
November. Salary and rank will be commensurate with experience and
publications, based on published salary schedules of the University of
California. UCSD is an AA/EOE. Scholars who are women, minorities, veterans,
