The seminar « Adaptation and Representation », organized by the Institute for
Cognitive Sciences (CNRS, Lyon, France), will begin in November 2006 and will
end in September 2007. Twice a month, a short position paper (about 3000 words)
will be published in English. Then, in the two weeks following each posting, a
moderated discussion will take place on line among invited discussants and the
public on the one hand, and the author on the other hand - as in a seminar room.
The web seminar will gather people of various backgrounds (philosophy, biology,
ethology, artificial intelligence, and linguistics) that will debate the
problems of the biological notion of adaptation and the evolutionary explanation
of cognition in evolving (artificial and natural) cognitive systems.
