MBL-ASU History of Biology Seminar. May 14-20, 2006. Applications due:
February 1, 2007.
For 19 years, the Dibner Institute has supported the History of Biology at the
Marine Biological Laboratory. This year will be the final year of Dibner
support and the first of a new joint MBL-Arizona State University program. The
topic this year is "What's the Value of History for Science," which will include
all the sciences. Historians and scientists will work together to explore
answers to this challenging question, drawing on case studies as well as
reflective analysis. Space will be very limited, but we expect to accept a small
number of participants. Applications and more information are available
through:
http://www.mbl.edu/education/courses/special_topics/history_biology.html
We also welcome suggestions and proposals for future topics in the history and
philosophy of the life sciences.
Co-Organizers for the Program are: Jane Maienschein (to whom applications
should be addressed at maienschein@asu.edu); John Beatty (john.beatty@ubc.ca);
James Collins (jcollins@nsf.gov)
