Position:

Researcher and Writer for Proposal Development


Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, a world-renowned research and educational
institution ( http://www.cshl.edu/ ) seeks for a highly qualified individual who
will carry out research in preparation for writing a grant proposal for
a major, multi-year project in the history of biology, and will assist
in writing the proposal. This will involve helping refine the scope of
the project, creating a strategic plan of action, and developing a
business model that will support the goals of the project. The post
would suit a scientist who is considering moving to a non-research but
science-related career, or historian with an interest in contemporary
scientific research.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The candidate will work in collaboration with the project’s leaders to:

help develop the mission and goals of the project;

determine the scope of the project by conducting a comprehensive survey
of national and international materials related to the project;

identify sources of funding in the public, foundation, and corporate 
domains;

prepare and submit a comprehensive grant proposal for funding;

REQUIREMENTS :

The candidate should be a talented writer, be able to work
independently, and have experience of successful grant writing.

Masters or PhD. degree, preferably in life sciences although other areas
of scholarly experience may be appropriate.

Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and experience in
conducting interviews would be an advantage.
