The Centre for Medical History and the ESRC Research Centre for Genomics
in Society, University of Exeter, UK, and the Max-Planck-Institute for
the History of Science, Berlin, are jointly organising a workshop “Human
Heredity in the Twentieth Century (A Cultural History of Heredity V)”.
This workshop, scheduled to take place at the University of Exeter from
2-4 September 2010, is part of a series that reflect a long term
cooperative research project between the Max-Planck-Institute for the
History of Science (MPIWG) in Berlin and the University of Exeter. The
project aims to uncover the technical, juridical, medical, and
scientific practices by which knowledge of inheritance was historically
anchored in different epochs and to understand the genesis of today’s
naturalistic concept of heredity. Scholars from a wide variety of
disciplines, including historians of science, medicine, art, literature,
law, and economics, are invited to submit paper proposals. Conference
language is English. Costs for travel and accommodation will be covered.
