Abstract
Beginnings of the agricultural sciences
The Bussey Institution was suggested at first as a agricultural college under the Morril Act and as a higher school of agriculture related to Harvard and its new goals under the direction of the President Eliot. The school of agriculture it was during its first years stop at the very beginnings of the XXth century for a transformation in a part of a department of apllied biology. From one side it was so a check, the institution will never be the equivalent of, for example, the French Institut national agronomique. But from the other side, it started a new way and participate to the beginnings of new fields as Genetic. It's a good example to undestand the differences between the countries for the poinjt of vew of the development of the agricultural sciences.
