OPERATIONS COMMITTEE

2007-2009
Barahona, Ana, Chair
DiTerasi, Chris
Dupré, John
Gerson, Elihu
Juette, Astrid
Robert, Jason
Young, Chris

The Operations Committee is chaired by the President-Elect. The Operations Committee is charged with reviewing the operations of the Society in order to (1) determine if its activities are operating efficiently (including evaluating the current Timeline of Society activities) and recommend any improvements that seem desirable, (2) provide advice when items arise about changes in its operations, and (3) engage in long range planning to ensure the continued health and vitality of the Society.

Each year the Operations Committee should collect committee reports and update the Operations Handbook/Webpages, adding the committee reports and relevant results of the council and business meetings.

Committee Report 2003

As part of the general review of operations, the committee drafted a timeline for operations which was presented at the 2003 Council meeting for discussion. The committee also began the Operations Handbook.

As the society's meetings become more dependent on web based resources, the operations committee reviewed past practices and recommended that the society webpages be updated. Numerous complaints about the lack of a secure webserver for registration and membership led to a search for alternatives.

To address these concerns the society created a new set of webpages, moved the site to a private provider (Hurricane Electric), instituted a PayPal system for online payment, and adapted online conference software for Program planning and submissions.

2001 Operations committee report

Lindley reported that the society is operating rather smoothly and thanked the committee for their input: Ana Barahona, Keith Benson, Nathaniel Comfort, Michael Dietrich, Jane Maienschein, Phil Sloan. An offer from a press to publish the proceedings of the meetings was declined due to cost and the difficulty coordinating the program with sufficient lead time. No revisions to the by laws are currently being considered since there is nothing egregious enough to require revision at present. Regional or off-year meetings will be discussed by a subcommittee of the council. The operations committee is soliciting volunteers to serve in various capacities.
